Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny quiet town. The West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never known about it may think it is a separate island facing west. The West Island is frequently referred to as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. The first goal she had was to become a dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow every dance partner she had. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 foot 1 inch tall. When I outgrew my male friends, I quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned into acting. The teacher she had at high school was what pushed her to take the next step. A teacher suggested that she audition for an annual school play. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the annual school production. This led to her being awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her BA in Fine Arts at York University. The career of Brugel spans more than 20 years and she has performed in more than 60 shows including big screen productions as well as smaller screens. Her most recognizable role was that of Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in Season 1 and only appeared occasionally.
